Life really is a beach

January 25, 2012 - Kathleen Palumbo
I admit to being one of those people who can find the humor in nearly anything, and a recent mid-winter vacation was no exception.

A few of my favorite travel chuckles:

- Airport security requirements that warrant the near schematic planning of an engineer – not to mention the fact that John Smith can board my plane with a lighter in tow despite that fact that he is not permitted to smoke; while my hairspray is apparently a matter of national security.

- Airplane safety demonstrations. Is there truly a flight attendant out there who believes for one minute that anyone could follow the instruction they offer (with a straight face, I might add), to remain calm and breathe normally when using the emergency oxygen masks that will fall into your face during a crash scenario? I think I speak for everyone when I say…once that mask drops down in front of me…all hope of a calm demeanor has left the plane.

- “Would you like an in-flight cocktail?” Let’s see…I’m nearly 30,000 feet in the air, often over water, and your fearless captain just declared oncoming turbulence – Why yes – yes, I think I will have an in-flight cocktail…or 6.

- And last, but certainly not least – the simple fact that a four hour flight to Mexico in fact requires a 12 hour day of travel.

All things considered – was the trip worth it? Yes, yes it was…see for yourself.
