Poet to speak at Tyler Mahoning Valley Historical Center
Mon, March 27, 2017 @ 7:00PM
The Mahoning Valley Historical Society and Etruscan Press will co-sponsor “‘Morning Where You Are’: The Poetry of Tim Seibles,” 7 p.m. March 27 at the Tyler Mahoning Valley History Center, 325 W. Federal St. During Monday’s program, to be held in the center’s second-floor ballroom, the prominent African-American poet will read excerpts from his recent book, "One Turn Around the Sun," a collection of poems that one critic describes as “a rich and memorable inquiry into a life.”
The current poet laureate of Virginia, Seibles is the author of seven books of poetry and has won recognition for dramatic readings of his streetwise and syncopated poems.
As an outreach poet of the Etruscan Press, Seibles will visit four public schools during his stay in the Youngstown area. He will be joined by novelist Lynn Lurie, author of "Quick Kills" and "Corner of the Dead." Monday’s program also will feature a short program by the Youngstown Connection, a singing and dancing group made up of high school students from the city and surrounding school districts.
Monday’s event will be free and open to the public, and refreshments will be available.
