Canfield sports notes

Canfield boys golf team defeated Struthers at Tippecanoe Country Club on Aug. 13 by a score of 180-192. Scoring for Canfield were Vince Leone with 44, Charlie Loomis with 47, Mike Pacifico with 45, Ben Shoman with 49, Andrew Letscher with 44 and Anthony Pacifico with 50.


Canfield girls golf team took first place on Aug. 18 at the George Valentine's Invitational played at Ashland Brookside Golf Course. Scoring for the girls were Christina Cooper with 70, Kerra Loomis with 75, Kaci Carpenter with 78 and Gillian Cerimele with 81 for a team total of 304. Cooper was the overall medalist for the entire tournament with a field of 18 teams. Second place went to Dover with a 325, and third went to Medina with 331.

On Aug. 22, the Lady Cardinals defeated Howland at Diamondback Golf Course by a score of 165 to 228. Scoring for Canfield were Cooper with 37, Loomis with 41, Carpenter with 41 and Cerimele with 46. Carpenter also had a hole-in-one


The Canfield Lady Cardinals soccer team opened up the season with a 5-0 win over Hathaway Brown on Aug. 16. Goals were by Anita Mancini, Alana Petracci, Sophia Mancini (2), and Sydney Miller with assists by Bailey Fischer, Haylee Klacik and Anita Mancini. Raquel Abel was in goal for the shut-out and had two saves. Canfield JV also defeated Hathaway Brown 4-0.

On Aug. 20, Canfield traveled to Howland and defeated the Lady Tigers 5-2. Goals were scored by Fischer with 2, Anita Mancini, Nikki Ghossain and Sophia Mancini with assists from Miller, Sophia Mancini and Klacik with two. Abel had two saves as Canfield outshot Howland 14-4 to improve to 2-0-0.


The Canfield girls tennis team has begun defense of their All-American League Championship with four straight 5 to 0 wins over Boardman, Howland, Austintown Fitch and Lakeview. The JV girls also have an unblemished record.

Top players for the Cardinals so far have been seniors Bri Slemons, Emily Ellis and Marina Sturgeon; juniors Ashley Kaleel and Paige Modarelli; sophomores Hannah Cianciola, Taya El-Hayek, Emily Hofsess, Lany Slemons and Mia Hanlon; and freshmen Grace Barrett, Nicole Grimm and Frankie Santon. Senior Megan Kulisek is on the team for the first time this season.
