Canfield sports notes

BOYS SOCCER

* Canfield Boys won 7-2 over Warren G. Harding on Aug. 28 at Mollenkopf Stadium. Four goals were scored by senior Frank Phillips and one each by senior Brett Lewis, junior Alex Shaer and sophomore Tanner English.

GIRLS SOCCER

* On Sept. 3, the Canfield Lady Cards won their fourth game of season with a 4-2 victory over the Boardman Spartans. Canfield is now 4-1-0. Anita Mancini scored a goal in the first half of the game. Haylee Klacik scored the second point on a penalty kick. Sophia Mancini scored the third goal. The fourth goal was made by Candace Smith on a corner kick. Raquel Abel played goalie the entire game and saved a couple of attempts on goal. Boardman scored their first goal in the first half of game and the second point was a penalty kick in the second half. The Boardman goalie saved 17 attempts on goal by the Canfield offense. The Canfield junior varsity won 3-0.

GIRLS TENNIS

* On Sept. 2, the Canfield girls' tennis team defeated Canton Central Catholic 5-0 but suffered their first loss of the season in a hard fought match to North Canton Hoover 3-2 in the Ohio Tennis Coaches Team Tournament. Recording two wins for the Cardinals were singles players Hannah Cianciola and Ashley Kaleel, while Taya El-Hayek and the doubles teams of Bri Slemons / Emily Hofsess, Lany Slemons / Paige Modarelli and Marina Sturgeon / Paige Modarelli all won one match. Nicole Grimm won a junior varsity match.

* On Sept. 5, the Canfield girls tennis team improved their record to 10 -1 with victories over Warren JFK (4 -1) and Niles (5 -0). Winning singles matches for the Cardinals were Taya El-Hayek, Grace Barrett, Nicole Grimm, Emily Hofsess and Frankie Santon. Combining for doubles wins were the teams of Emily Ellis / Marina Sturgeon, Mia Hanlon / Nicole Grimm and Paige Modarelli / Lany Slemons. Canfield remains at the top of the heap in AAC Tennis.
