Canfield sports notes

GIRLS SOCCER:

* Sept. 20: The Canfield girls soccer team come up short and loose to the Bay Rockets, 2-3. Canfield's record is now 8-2-0. Canfield's two goals were made by senior Sophia Mancini. Raquel Abel played goalie and had 6 saves. Canfield offense had 9 shots on goal, the same number to the Rockets. Canfield junior varsity won over Bay High School with a 2-0 victory.

* Sept. 15: The Canfield girls soccer team shut out the Salem Quakers with a 5-0 win. Goals were by Sophia Mancini (2), Bailey Fischer, Cheyenne Story on a corner kick, and Anita Mancini on a penalty kick. Assists were made by Bailey Fischer (2) and Sophia Mancini. Raquel Abel was in goal for the shut out and had 3 saves.

Canfield junior varsity did not play due to a cancellation.

CHS BOYS SOCCER:

* Sept. 20: The Canfield boys soccer team fell to Green, 0-3, to move to 5-4-2 on the season. Jeff Joseph logged 9 saves in the game. The Canfield boys junior varsity team also fell 2-3 to Green.

CHS GIRLS TENNIS:

The Canfield girls tennis team sparked by the three victories of juniors Taya El-Hayek and Ashley Kaleel and sophomore Lany Slemons improved their record to 15 and 1 with wins over Struthers (5-0), Howland (4-1) and Boardman (4-1). Kaleel's wins were all in singles, while El-Hayek had 2 singles wins and a doubles victory. Slemons won twice with Paige Modarelli and once with Marina Sturgeon. Other strong performances were put in by Hannah Cianciola, Emily Hofsess and Bri Slemons. Showing improvement was the play of underclassmen Mia Hanlon, Nicole Grimm, Frankie Santon and Grace Barrett.
