Dobbins Elementary School fourth-graders on May 26 celebrated Red Nose week and did a little ''fun-raising'' of their own.

Fourth-grade teacher Renee Gesacion sad May 26 also was U.S. Children's Poverty Day.

''On Monday, we had a lesson on judging others by their looks,'' Gesacion said. ''On Tuesday, we sent a note home that we would be collecting dry and canned goods for the Poland Food Pantry.''

Helping pack food donations raised last week by Dobbins fourth-graders are Audrey Heaton and Sydney Henderson.

The collection day was May 26 and was tied in with Red Nose Day, a day set aside for helping children in poverty.

All the fourth-graders wore their red noses to school and the food collection went into high gear. By the end of the school day, the students raised 177 food items.

Gesacion said the Poland Food Pantry serves families in the Poland area who are poverty-stricken.

For the Dobbins students, Red Nose Day was a way to have fun while fundraising.
