C.H. Campbell ushers in spring break

As a fun way to usher in spring and spring break at C.H. Campbell Elementary School, students ate their lunch in a beach-styled atmosphere.

The tables and chairs were removed from the cafeteria April 13 and students brought their favorite beach towel and a picnic lunch.

The students also received a squeeze-ice to enjoy thanks to the PTO.

According to C.H. Campbell principal Travis Lavery, the beach blanket luncheon was just part of the day's activities. Students also got to enjoy an ice cream party complete with a disc jockey, all courtesy of Handel's Ice Cream.

"We raised more money per student than any other school in Mahoning County during the Handle's Koins for Kids Campaign to benefit Akron Children's Hospital Mahoning Valley," Lavery said. "Because we raised the most per student, Handel's was giving out school the ice cream party."

Lavery said this is the third time in the past six years that C.H. Campbell has raised the most per student. He said Hilltop Elementary also placed at the top in two of the six years, which mean Canfield elementary school buildings have placed in the top spot five out of six years.

"That is out of the entire county," Lavery said. "Our kids have a very giving nature."

Between the beach lunch and the ice cream party, C.H. Campbell kids started their spring break on a very happy note.
