Relay on its way to meeting goal

June 14, 2017
The Town Crier

The Boardman Relay for Life finished the 2017 event on May 20 with well over half of this year's goal collected. According to Senior Manager of the Youngstown Area Relay for Life events, Pam Marshall, said the goal is $115,000 and before Saturday's event ending, they had already collected over $70,000.

"We had 47 teams signed up to help raise funds," Marshall said. "Not all the teams show up at the event."

She said anyone can still donate to the Boardman Relay by sending a check to the American Cancer Society, and by marking the check memo line "for Boardman Ohio Relay."

TM Technologies team members Lizzie Casedy and Chris Strabala find new energy as the closing hours of the Boardman Relay for Life began. The two were among the 24-hour walkers feeling the pain as they are joined by team member and support staff Amanda McDonald.

The Boardman Relay is one of the 1985 heritage events that is still going the full 24 hours because cancer doesn't sleep.
