BCIS student wins 13th place in nation

Swathi Padmanabhan, a fifth-grade student at Boardman Center Intermediate School, won first place in the state of Pennsylvania and 13th in the nation in her grade level in the Math Kangaroo competition. Swathi competed at the University of Pittsburgh on March 16 and was awarded on June 6.

Math Kangaroo is a timed test in which students attempt to answer 30 multiple choice math questions in 75 minutes. Competitors are scored based on their accuracy and difficulty of the questions. It is the largest academic competition in the world, with 6 million participants worldwide and 30,000 in the United States.
