Boys win first round of AAC Championship

The Boardman freshmen boys defeated Youngstown East by a score of 52-42 In the first round of the AAC tournament. The Spartans started out the game strong, scoring 18 points in the first quarter. Leading the way early were Nick Ott and Ty Ventresco with six and five points respectively in the quarter. With the Spartans holding a nine-point lead at the half, East made a run in the third quarter to bring it to a three-point game. The Freshman then separated in the fourth quarter, knocking down free throws and rebounding on the defensive end. Aidan Slocum's strong second half led to a team high 12 points. Ventresco added 11, Ott had 10 and Patrick Hubert had seven. Rounding out the scoring was Marco Stilliana with six, Mark Filicky with four, and Roen Marinelli with two. With the win, the boys will move on to play at Warren Harding on Monday. The Spartans split the season series with Harding, with both teams winning on their home court.
