Austintown Farmer's Market and Woodside Community Gardens will welcome in spring with a new fun event on March 19. Members of both entities will be hosting a spring planting event inside the Stacey Pavilion at Austintown Township Park.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. with a focus on young gardeners, who will be planting a sunflower seed.

"There is no charge and supplies are provided for the children, who will learn from Andrea Bowden of Woodside Community Gardens about plants and their lifecycle," said Shannon Lehn, manager of the Farmers Market. "The children will leave with their very own planted sunflower seed which they can grow and eventually use in their own homes or plant in the sunflower fields of Woodside Community Gardens."

Lehn said this is the first year for this event, which will also help kick off the 2018 Austintown Farmers Market. The event will be free and adults who may have questions on planting from seed are welcome to attend and seek answers from Bowden.

"While the event is free, registration is required," Lehn said. "Those wishing to attend can register by emailing or by calling 330-349-2503 and leave a message with the child or children's first name and age."
