Artists from Poland Seminary High School walked away with seven awards at the recent Mahoning County Art Show. While the show is set for May, the judging is done early. The artists are then recognized at the official show date on May 2 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Joyce Brooks Center at MCCTC for invited guests.

Winning in their respective categories are seniors Katie Smith for first place in acrylics, senior Alexis Rodriguez for third place in acrylics, senior Hanna Blake who won a district award for charcoal, senior Marlie Kluchar for first place on metals, junior Chelsea Kilgore for third place on mixed media, senior Kaitlyn Battaglia for an honorable mention on charcoal, and senior Sierra Sebastian for an honorable mention in chalk pastels.

"All of the pieces were created this school year, except for two which were created after the Mahoning County show last year," said PSHS teacher Ruth Riley.

She said the students are part of art teacher Susan Holub's class. They join a large growing group of art winners who enter pieces every year for the county show.

"PSHS participates in the County Show every year and usually wins several awards," Riley said.

Each district was able to submit up to 15 entries per teacher. The artwork is delivered on March 7 to MCCTC and was judged on March 10. Each medium category included a first, second, third and honorable mention.
