Several members of the Canfield Junior Women's League attended the March 21 Canfield Board of Education meeting to distribute the proceeds from the club's annual Fall Market on the Green. Each school building and one technology team received funds from the CJWL.

"The 49th Fall Market on the Green, sponsored by the Junior Women's League, was a record-breaking success," said Shari Carlozzi. "It has once again given us the opportunity to offer our Commitment to Education Grant to each of the four schools in our district as well as the outstanding High School Robotics Club."

She said this year, it was the building principals who selected projects or purchases for the CJWL funds to go towards. The middle school will be able to purchase a new Laminator that will benefit the entire school.

Canfield Junior Women's League member Shari Carlozzi addressed the Canfield Board of Education on March 21 to issue donations for all the Canfield school buildings as well as the robotics team. Joining her for the presentation were members Renee Benson and Nancy Ramunno.

At the high school, the grant will purchase new buzzers for the Academic Challenge Team as well as several new Breathalyzers to be used to increase student safety at school sponsored events.

C.H. Campbell will use its funds to invest in character education materials to support social and emotional learning that will impact all 875 students at both elementary schools.

Hilltop will invest in Language Learning Games, an alphabet carpet for the Literacy Lab, and a set of Leveled Reading books for first grade.

"And finally, the Robotics Club has ideas that include funds for travel to competitions as well as material and equipment for their project," Carlozzi said.

Each grant was for $1,000 with the funds coming from the annual Fall Market on the Green.

On top of the building donations and robotics team, the members will also be presenting two scholarships to deserving seniors, including the newly named Nancy Dove Character Award. The award was named after the CJWL member who passed away in February.

All school board members, and building principals were thankful for the funds. Superintendent Alex Geordan too was grateful.

"It give us all a good reason to support the Fall Market on the Green," he said.

The CJWL is also open for membership. Any woman wanting to get involved or learn more about the organization can call the club at 330-506-4347.
