Canfield Township Trustees agreed to pass a budget that is higher than the anticipated revenue, but plan to come back and make some cuts at a later date.

The budget had to be finalized and submitted to the county auditor by the end of the month. Trustees could then go back and make changes as needed.

The budget was set for $2,441,080.70 and the expected revenue is at $2,139,124.15. That made for a difference of just over $301,000.

"We'll have to pass the budget now, then keep an eye on it, making adjustments quarterly," said Trustee Marie Cartwright.

Spending resolutions for the Land Usage Plan, the War Veterans Museum donation and the Fourth of July Parade donation were tabled for another meeting, until the trustees could take another look at the permanent budget.

The total expected revenue along with the carryover from 2017 totaled $6,544,500.02. While the money could easily cover the 2018 budget that was passed, trustees didn't want to keep using up the carryover. They wanted to balance the budget as best they could, matching revenue with expenses.

Part of the 2018 budget calls for $89,000 to be spent on paving. Township administrator Kieth Rogers said Alvacardo, Eden Rock and Clearview are on the slate this year. He said they are close and the township will be able to do more if they don't have to pay an equipment movement fee working on streets that are far apart.

In other business:

Beth Levine was approved as alternate member for the Zoning Board of Appeals for a five-year term.

Warrants and electronic payments totaling $88,436.23 were approved.

Trustees accepted the low bid for fertilization maintenance for Township Community Park from Cross Brothers Landscaping LLC for $500 per treatment to include three applications for the common areas and two applications for the athletic fields at a cost not to exceed $2,750.
