Canfield students get NAACP award

The Mahoning County NAACP held its first recognition award for high school students (one boy and one girl) from area High schools on April 28. The students selected were based on the criteria of integrity, leadership, truth, social justice, humanity and a voice for equality. The scholarship and recognition chair person was Natalie Spencer Scott.
This year‘s recipients from Canfield high school were Ben Shapiro and Sareena Sethi. In addition, Sethi received a $100 prize for winning first place in the essay contest about her being a voice in the future and being a new leader in our community for our youth.
Pictured are Canfield High School recipients Ben Shapiro and Sareena Sethi with Natalie Spencer Scott (Mahoning NAACP scholarship chairperson) in the middle. Recipients from all the high schools were honored and also got to attend a workshop on April 14 at the downtown center.
