Among the Mahoning Valley Corvette Club (MVCC) members who displayed their ride on June 12 at the Austintown Senior Center cruise were Mickey and Johanna Nuzzo of Boardman. Their 2017 Grand Sport Corvette was one of the stars with the custom add-ons that Mickey put into it.

"I dressed up the engine a little bit," he said. "I added some chrome and had some custom-made valve covers."

The 480 horsepower engine became a one of a kind with a lot of new after-market chrome. The valve covers were hand painted by Austintown painter Bob Swarm.

On the rear of the Corvette are "Combat Veteran" license plates. Nuzzo said that comes from serving two tours in Vietnam as a combat medic.

"I was going to be a school teacher until I got into the medic field," he said. "I loved it and stayed with it."

After Vietnam, Nuzzo returned home and entered the field of medicine. For 20 years he ran the lung machine for open heart surgery at St. Elizabeth Hospital.

Now he enjoys retirement and his cruising vehicles. He also has a 1956 Chevy Bel Air 383 Stroker.

"The cars are just for fun," he said. "My real hobby is model railroading."

The Nuzzo's will likely be at the MVCC's big nationally-sanctioned event on July 22, when it hosts the 24th Annual Corvette and Steel Car Show at Greenwood Chevrolet on Mahoning Avenue in Austintown. The event attracts Corvettes from all over the tri-state area and beyond.
