The Poland Seminary High School Athletic Department will be closing Poland Stadium all day on Tuesday, July 24. During the closure, the turf will be cleaned and re-conditioned.

Athletic Director Brian Banfield said the process will take the entire day.

"Field cleaning can last anywhere from six to eight hours," Banfield said.

He said the process will include a treatment with The Motz Group's unique multi-function cleaning machine through de-compaction of the infill that increases the quality of the cleaning process and the effectiveness of the disinfectant that will be applied to help tackle bacteria and pathogens.

The vacuuming process for the turf includes removing debris, leaves, dust, lint, human hair and dander.

Banfield added the sweeper will include a high-powered magnet that will target discarded items from helmets, bobby pins, and other dangerous metal fragments within the turf.

The turf will then be broomed to rejuvenate the fiber and help maintain an attractive look. The process will include seam repairs and infill added where needed. The field will then be tested by field service technician before a final report is given to the athletic department.

"A detailed assessment on the status of the field, along with recommended procedures to enhance playability and prolonged usage is provided," Banfield said.

The turf at Poland Stadium was installed August of 2008. The first game, a varsity football game, was played on it Aug. 21, 2008.

"We have played on the turf for 10 years," Banfield said. "This year will be number 11."

The stadium will be reopen on Wednesday, July 25. The turf will be ready for use starting July 26 from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m. daily.

"This is an annual treatment we do every summer on the turf," Banfield said. "We thank everyone for their understanding and cooperation in this matter."
