Cheer Camp makes kids Cardinal Strong

August 15, 2018
The Town Crier

During last week's cheerleading camp, 210 campers (50 of which were 3- and 4-year-olds) were in attendance, in addition to 45 high school cheerleaders. The CHS cheerleaders taught cheers, chants, jumps and dances to all campers over the three-day camp. They ended their "Cardinal Strong" Cheer camp with a performance for all of the cheer families and friends. The performance consisted of 3- and 4-year-olds, 5- and 6-year-olds, 7 and up, CLC squiggs, CLC midgets, CLC peewees, seventh and eighth grade cheerleaders, and the Canfield high school cheer squads (freshmen, JV, and varsity).

The 2018 camp theme was "Cardinal Strong." It used a cheer sign that said C.A.R.D.S along the top of a poster-sign to explain what this means: courage, attitude, respect, determination, strength.

Courage is to be pushed out of comfort zone and to try new skills.

Attitude and respect go hand in hand and one has to be a team player and have a positive attitude at all times.

Determination is to constantly work on improving for not only yourself, but for the entire team.

Strength is basically physical and mental.

This is what connects the program with the Cardinal community. Working as a team, empowering one another; motivating one another; and working as one unit makes the team Cardinal Strong.
