Bands preparing for Boardman Band Night '18

September 5, 2018
The Town Crier

The Boardman Spartan Marching Band and the Boardman Band and Orchestra Parents, Inc. will host Boardman Band Night '18 on Saturday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m. in Spartan Stadium. Participating high school bands include McDonald, Springfield, West Branch, Lowellville, Austintown, Canfield, Howland and the Boardman Spartan Marching Band. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Senior citizens are admitted free to all Boardman Band events. Gates open at 6 p.m.

The BSMB will present its own version of NBC's "Saturday Night Live." Director of Bands Thomas Ruggieri said he wanted to recreate some of the classic music skits like King Tut, More Cowbell, Night at the Roxbury, and James Brown's Celebrity Hot Tub Party.

"Each time an audience sees the SNL part of the show, they will see something different because of the combinations of 'cold opens,' music skits, and musical guests," said Ruggieri. It will have the opening theme and closing theme with Thank Yous and Goodnights just like on television.

The Boardman Band is under the direction of Thomas M. Ruggieri, Timothy Tuite, and Michael Shevock. Also on staff are Madison Landgraff and Courtney McGrady as instructors of the Sweethearts and Silks. Band Night '18 will be the seventh performance of the BSMB since the season started with Howland Band Night on Aug. 14. The Band performs at all Boardman High School varsity football games, local band nights, and various community events.

The big trip for this school year will take place in December 2018 as the Band travels to Gatlinburg Tennessee to march in the Gatlinburg Fantasy of Lights Holiday Parade.
