Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 2985 Center Road, was busy this month as the newly formed Youth Missions Group held its first meeting and work session.

"For our September youth group meeting, we packed school kits for Lutheran World Relief," said spokesperson Nora Smith. "The youth group prepared and packed 25 school kits."

The kits will be sent out to help with Lutheran World Relief and will go to help children in need. Smith said preparing the kits helps both the receiver and the giver.

Charlee Ritzler and Bruce Smith sorted school supplies at the September meeting of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church’s new youth ministry group. It was the first meeting for the youth group, who prepared 25 school kits for Lutheran World Relief efforts.

"We are hoping to teach our children the importance of serving others," Smith said. "We believe we are called to help others and we hope that our children will learn to do so with a humble heart."

Smith said the youth group is still open for members. Anyone needing additional information on the new youth program can contact the church at 330-757-3272 or like the Facebook page "Prince of Peace Evangelical Lutheran, Poland, OH" for up-to-date event information.

Next month's youth group will be meeting at the church on Oct. 3 from 6-7 p.m.

"We will be preparing boxes for Operation Christmas Child that will be used for the church's packing party in November," Smith said. "Again, all youth grades K-12 are welcome. We are also happy to sign any paperwork for students who need service hours."

This past Sunday, the adults joined in the mission effort as well. Members of the congregation collected bath towels, combs, soap, nail clippers and toothbrushes to assemble into personal care kits for Lutheran World Relief. The team was able to assemble 30 kits. These kits, along with the school kits from the youth group and quilts from the sewing group will be taken to Jerusalem Lutheran in Seville, Ohio in mid-October where they will be compiled with other church's donations and transported to the LWR warehouse in New Windsor, Maryland.
