The City of Canfield has set Oct. 20 from 1 to 7 p.m. as the date for the first Fall Festival. The event will take place on the Village Green and will feature the sale of beer and wine.

The main focus of the day will be the pumpkin decorating contest that will take place on the Village Green. The city will provide pumpkins and limited amount of decorating items.

"We will supply some decorating materials, but people are encouraged to bring their own supplies," said Police Chief Chuck Colucci.

He said the contest will be broken into adult, teen, and youth age groups. They will have most of the afternoon to complete their pumpkin entry, which will be judged at 6 p.m. by a pre-selected panel of judges.

On top of the competition, the Village Green will also feature Bounce-A-Rounds and the city's jumbo yard games that include chess, checkers, Jenga, Connect 4, and Tic Tac Toe. Face painting will be offered with the proceeds going to Animal Charity.

As for the alcohol, the city will obtain its first one-day permit to sell beer and wine. Cocca's Pizza will be brought in to dispense or serve it, but the profit will have to stay with the city, who is responsible to obtain the beverages.

The alcoholic beverages will be sold in a restricted area away from the Village Green. That area will be between the Farmer's Bank Buildings.

"Alcohol must stay in this restricted area," Colucci said. "The Canfield Police will provide security around that area."

Cocca's Pizza will also be serving food and tents with tables will be set up for families to eat.
