Canfield and Poland reach agreement on Battle of 224

An agreement was reached between the Canfield Local School District and the Poland Local School District to continue the athletic rivalry. A memorandum of understanding was signed at Canfield High School on Oct. 26. Both districts agreed to the following terms:

Fall 2019: Junior High Football, Varsity and JV Volleyball, Boys and Girls Golf, Girls Tennis

Winter 2019/20: Boys and Girls Varsity, JV, Freshmen Basketball

After a meeting between Poland Athletic Director Brian Banfield, Poland Superintendent David Janofa, Canfield Superintendent Alex Geordan, and Associate Athletic Director/Principal Michael Cochran, an agreement was reached to continue the infamous Battle of 224 after a one-year break.

Spring 2020: Varsity, JV, Freshmen Baseball, Varsity, JV, Freshmen Softball, Boys Tennis

Fall 2020: Week One Varsity, JV, and Freshmen High School Football

Fall 2021: Week Three Varsity, JV, and Freshmen High School Football

The agreement to play extracurricular athletics will continue indefinitely. The parties agreed to play week three of High School Football unless week 10 is open for both schools.

Canfield Superintendent Alex Geordan said, "Working together to finalize this agreement is something both districts can be proud of, we are pleased with the agreement and are excited to see the rivalry continue in all sports."

"The Poland-Canfield rivalry is something that both communities enjoy," said David Janofa, Poland Superintendent says. "We are looking forward to seeing it continue."
