Poand Girls qualify two to state this weekend

November 7, 2018
The Town Crier

Course conditions were typical for last Saturday's Regional Cross Country championship meet. Lots of rain and mud leveled the proverbial playing field for the region's top runners. Among them were the Lady Bulldogs who pulled off an eighth place team finish, a mere five places out of a bid for the state championship on Nov. 3. For the second year in a row, the Bulldogs finished just out of the top six teams who qualified for Columbus.

"The girls team worked hard all season, always keeping a trip to state in the back of their minds" said Coach Kim Grisdale. "To get so close for the second year in a row was excruciating. But we're hoping that the third time's the charm."

There was a bright spot as both Jackie Grisdale and Halle Sebest qualified individually. Grisdale finished 11th overall with Sebest crossing the line in 22nd. Behind the qualifiers were Gianna Stanich who placed 29th, just five spots out of the top 24 qualifiers, followed by Haley Trolio, 92nd , Ella Harrell, 109th, Emily Denny, 123rd and Sydney Norris, 137th.

Jackie Grisdale finished 11th at the Regional Cross Country championship meet, which qualified her for a trip to the state championships, now scheduled for this coming weekend (Nov. 10)

The Lady Bulldogs were scheduled to race on Nov. 3 at 2:15 pm at the state course in Hebron last Saturday. Late last week that state final was moved to this Saturday (Nov. 10), due to flooding conditions on the course at National Trail Raceway in Hebron, Executive Director Jerry Snodgrass has announced.

"While I wholeheartedly understand the impact this move has for all those involved in the event, this is the best solution for the safety and well-being of our participating student-athletes," Snodgrass said. "National Trail Raceway has closed the course due to flooding with the on-going rain we have had in central Ohio, so the conditions will hopefully be much better by next weekend."

The schedule for the championships will be as follows:

Saturday, Nov. 10, National Trail Raceway, Hebron

11 a.m. Boys Division III

11:45 a.m. Boys Division II

12:30 p.m. Boys Division I

1:30 p.m. Girls Division III

2:15 p.m. Girls Division II

3 p.m. Girls Division I

The OHSAA will continue to update information on the cross country tournament on its website (www.ohsaa.org) and Twitter and Facebook accounts.
