Poland's churches come together to give thanks

On Sunday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. a special Thanksgiving service will be held at Poland United Methodist Church. It will be attended and is being sponsored by congregations from Bethel friends, Heritage Presbyterian, Holy Family, Poland Presbyterian, Poland United Methodist and Prince of Peace Lutheran churches.

"This is an annual event, held the Sunday before Thanksgiving," said Holy Family Parish Center Coordinator Kathleen Meredith. "The service rotates each year to a different Poland Church location."

The joint service will include participation by each member of the clergy from each respective congregation in terms of the scripture readings, prayers and meditation.

"In addition, the choir for the evening service is comprised of members of each congregation," Meredith said.

At the combined service, a freewill offering will be taken to benefit the Poland Food Pantry that is housed at the Poland Methodist Church. The pantry helps hundreds of families in the area that are in need.

After the service refreshments will be served as the mixed congregation enjoys each other's company. Meredith said the event is an important one for the community.

"This event is very important for the community of Poland," she said. "It builds cohesiveness, respect and understanding among the parishioners and residents of Poland."
