Three athletes hosted at 2018 fall signing event

Three Boardman high school senior student-athletes signed their letters of intent to continue their careers in college. Cole Christman will attend YSU for golf, Kaylin Burkey will attend California University of Pennsylvania for volleyball, and Jackie Harker will attend Kent State for the sport of gymnastics.

Cole was a three-time OHSAA State Qualifier his first three years at Boardman. He has been selected First Team All AAC in the Red Tier all four years. The past two years he earned AAC Player of the Year honors in the Red Tier and earned 1st Team All-Northeast Ohio honors. Christman was a three-time Vindicator Greatest Golfer winner. Christman was the medalist for Sectionals his freshman year and for Districts his sophomore and junior year. He qualified twice for the IMG International in San Diego and placed 9th at the Hudson Junior Invitational. Christman is the son of Lee and Mike Christman. He is undecided on his major.

Kaylin Burkey is a four-year varsity letter winner on the Spartans volleyball program. She earned First Team All American Conference and First Team Division I District honors the last three years. In her junior year, she was named the District Player of the Year and this year received Honorable Mention All-State in Division I. Burkey accumulated over 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs during her high school career. She also played for Infinity Volleyball Club in Salem for the past seven years. She is the daughter of Justine and Todd Burkey.

Jackie Harker trained at the Youngstown Gymnastics Center under the coaching of Tani Blount. She started training in gymnastics at the age of 4 and started competing when she was 7 years old. Jackie attended YSGA state and regional competitions, placed third on the floor exercise at the State level, and third on the balance beam at Regionals. She will study exercise science at Kent State and is the daughter of Stephanie and Tim Harker.
