Austintown Rotary helps the helpers

December 12, 2018
The Town Crier

Three Austintown groups that help needy students and their families received backing from the Rotary Club of Austintown at their Dec. 3 meeting. President Richard Begalla welcomed school staff to be recognized for the work they do quietly to make life less stressful.

Austitown Middle School sent Angela Yohman, John Hudson, and Barb Tomic for a check for $250 to help with the AMS Food Pantry, which Hudson said gets daily visits from students to supplement their family's food supply. This program has been in operation for several years, and the guests thanked Rotary for its continued support.

Representing the Austintown Council of PTA, Lynn Mickey was very surprised to receive $1500 which will help fund the Falcon Outreach Program, which distributed food vouchers to 85 families last Christmas. PTA spreads this aid among all four Austintown schools.

AMS Food Pantry was the recipient of $250 during the recent Austintown Rotary meeting. At the check presentation were, Angela Yohman, John Hudson, Rich Begalla (Rotary President) and Barb Tomic.

The last group to be honored was Kritti's Closet at Fitch, which makes clothing, personal needs, and food packages to high school students. Speaking for this group was Alissa Baxter and Jason Hosey, chosen by teacher Donna Burnell, founder of the program. Their check for $250 will help provide items not donated or available normally.

Rotarian Christine Vlosich explained that the generosity was made possible by Rotary funds with a matching grant from the MVH Foundation.
