The Poland Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team completed their 2018-2019 season with a perfect 18-0 record by defeating the South Range Raiders 51-37 in the Northeast 8 Conference championship game played at the Poland Middle School on Feb. 13. JP Genova saved his best performance for the biggest game of the year when he scored a season-high 23 points. Luke Generalovich's strong contribution resulted in 11 points, while Bryce Barringer netted eight for the Bulldogs. Carson Maurer added four points, Ben Harrell hit a 3-pointer, and Derek Thomas rounded out the scoring effort with two points in the title game.  Poland also defeated Jefferson 45-21 in the NE8 quarterfinals before defeating Girard 48-33 in the semifinals to advance to the championship game.  The team finished their middle school basketball career with an unblemished 35-0 record and is believed to be the first Poland boys squad to have achieved that feat in 18 years. Team members include, in front, Ben Harrell, Connor Hudran, Matteo Melone, Teagan McCurdy, Jacob Allsopp, Noah Huda, and Derek Thomas. In the top row are head coach Matt Baker, Ryan Nemeth, Carson Maurer, Luke Generalovich, JP Genova, Bryce Barringer and assistant coach David Baker.
