Brock Farris, a seventh grade student at Glenwood Junior High, will compete in the 2019 Ohio State Geography Bee on Friday, March 29. The competition will take place at Winchester Elementary School in Canal Winchester, Ohio. Brock earned a top score on the qualifying test to compete as one of only 100 students in Ohio. He is one of only three students from the Mahoning Valley to qualify.

"We work several times a week, meeting an hour before school begins, and Brock spends hours and hours of practice at home, to prepare for this competition," said Vince Carnevale. "Brock has a very strong base of geography knowledge and a real desire to compete with the best kids in the state."

The winner of the state bee will advance to the National Geography Bee, which will be held in Washington D.C. May 19-22. Students from all over the country compete for a chance to win college scholarships, and be the National GeoBee winner. These events are sponsored by the National Geographic Society in order to improve geographic literacy and integrate more technology into the classroom.
