The Fitch Robotics Team, Falco Tech 3193, won a special award over the weekend as they competed in Rochester, New York at the Finger Lakes Regional competition.

"I am excited to tell you that the Fitch Robotics Team Falco Tech 3193 won the Engineering Inspiration award," said Austintown robotics mentor Andy Yantes. "This award advances our team to the World Championship in April."

Yantes said to earn the award, the team has to meet several criteria that advances respect and appreciation for engineering within a school or organization and community.

Among the guidelines for qualifying are the extent and inventiveness of the team's effort to recruit students to engineering. There has to be measurable success of those efforts with the emphasis on the most recent year.

Also used in determining the award is the extent and effectiveness of community outreach efforts in the recent year, a commitment to science and technology education among the team, school and community, achievement of the FISRT robotics mission and ability to communicate that at the competition and away from it, and an on-going effort concentrated on the build and competition season. Falco Tech 3193 met all of the qualifying marks to earn the award and advance to the World Championship next month.
