Basista breaks two meet records at swim championships Championships in Columbus

On March 15, 16, and 17 the Youngstown Y-Neptunes Swim Team completed in the YMCA Great Lakes Zone Swim Meet Championships at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion on the campus of Ohio State. The best YMCA Swimmers from Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, and West Virginia converged on Columbus for the three-day event. In the 15 and over age bracket Y-Neptune swimmer Noah Basista of Boardman placed first in three individual events and one relay qualifying for YMCA short course Nationals in Greensboro, North Carolina. On Friday night Basista took first place in the 200 breastroke with a time of 2:04.80 breaking the old meet record of 2:05.44. On Saturday morning Basista added another win with a first place time of 153.97 in the Individual Medley. Sunday morning started with the 200 Free Relay of Basista, Matt DunLany from Boardman, Will Linker from Boardman, and Jason Paris from Canfield taking first place with a National qualifying time of 1:26.81. The same relay team took second in the 200 Medley relay later that morning as well. Then Basista capped off the weekend with another meet record swim of 56.93 in the 100 breaststroke breaking the previous mark of 57.72.
