A total of 97 students will be involved with next week's production of "Shrek the Musical" at Poland High School. The performance will take place on April 4, 5, and 6 with 7 p.m. showtimes.

Of the 7, 68 are cast members for the performance. According to Poland Players director Candy Fonagy, there are 104 costumes and over 400 pieces for the performance.

"There will be a lot of changing, several times for some," she said.

Shrek, played by Luke Lankitus, is getting agitated by the fast-talking Donkey, played by Anthony Koulianous, during the rehearsal of a scene from next week’s performance of 'Shrek the Musical' at Poland High School.

"Shrek the Musical" is from the original Broadway script. For the Poland Players, the production will showcase the talented voices of the students, and will keep the stage crew working hard to make the scene changes.

Tickets for the performances are $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and students.

"All the proceeds go back in the pot for the next performance," Fonagy said. "We are self-funded."

Fonagy said she does have some great help from parents who assist with costumes and a lot of behind the scene necessities. One challenge was to use the same material to create three dresses for the lead roll of a young Fiona, a teen Fiona, and an adult Fiona, played by Julia Snyder, Mary Liddle and Aidan McDanel. The perfect blending of the dresses are observed in one scene where all three Fiona's come together for a number.
