"The Twilight Zone" comes to Canfield

The Canfield Players will be presenting "The Twilight Zone" as their spring play this month. The show will be presented on April 12-13 at 7 p.m. and April 14, at 2 p.m. at Canfield High School.

Pulling off this sort of production was a challenge for Canfield Players Director Regina Reynolds. Getting permissions were not easy and took some time.

"I had to first get permission from Ann Serling, daughter of Rod Serling," Reynolds said. "Then I had to obtain permission from CBS who owns 'The Twilight Zone' series."

The professor (played by Lauren Johnson) reaches for a gun as a shocked maid (played by Abby Palmer) backs up in 'The Twilight Zone' episode “Changing of the Guard.”

She said the fact the performances were being done by a non-profit school group, and the fact it would be a short threeday run made it easier for CBS to give permission.

The four episodes that will be presented include "Changing of the Guard," "Time Enough at Last," "A Pitch for the Angels," and "Monsters on Maple Street."

Assisting with the wardrobe for the production is Marleen Strollo from The Hopewell Theatre in Youngstown. She brings a lot of experience and knowledge of theater that is a welcome help for Reynolds, who is in her fifth year as director.

The performance will be organized just like the television series with Ben Doss and Jordan Simmons standing in front of the white door and setting the scene for each episode.

"'The Twilight Zone' series was an unconventional way to look at ourselves and see both the good and evil, the joy and sadness, and the fear and longings we all possess," Reynolds said.

Tickets may be purchased at the door or by contacting Regina Reynolds at 330-533-5507 at Canfield High School. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and students.
