MVOCC kicks off season

May 14, 2019
J.T. Whitehouse , The Town Crier

The Mahoning Valley Olde Car Club kicked off their season on April 30 with the Wedgewood Pizza Cruise. The "high adventure" first cruise at the Saxon Club on Meridian Road in Austintown took place and will run weekly through Sept. 10.

The cruise was run out of the Austintown Senior Center in recent years. It had grown at that location, often attracting 100 plus vehicles. The move to the Saxon Club will help the cruise continue to grow according to MVOCC Vice Chairman Fred Ross.

"More space and easy access," Ross said, "There is much more room to include activities as required, and the food court is improved."

Each week, the club will continue to award trophies. Ross said the actual categories and number of trophies have yet to be decided.

The cruises will again benefit Hospice of the Valley and the MVOCC kid's fund, which is raised to help a local small child battling life-threatening illness. The child recipient for 2019 has not been finalized as yet.

The cruises will be held at the Saxon Club from 5 to 8 p.m. every Tuesday depending on weather. Ross believes the new location will attract a lot more vehicles and there will be some great door prizes as well.

"The door prizes include a work bench with drawers as well as 50/50 drawings and several second and third place prizes," Ross said. "It looks like between the size of the location and the door prizes at the end of the season there will be more participation [this year]."
