School Board takes early morning ride on Bus Driver Appreciation Day

May 14, 2019
The Town Crier

Boardman School Board members hopped aboard school buses bright and early Monday morning, May 6. Their days of book bags and school lunches may only be fond memories, but the ride along is a way to celebrate Ohio's School Bus Driver Appreciation Day. Boardman has nearly 60 full and part time drivers who dedicate themselves to our students' safety every day. BOE members John Fryda, Vickie Davis, Frank Zetts, President Jeff Barone, and Treasurer Nick Ciarniello enjoyed riding the morning routes.

A bus driver's day begins very early. Boardman's BOE and administrators greeted drivers at the new Transportation Garage around 6:15 a.m. and watched as drivers did their daily safety checks and started their buses. This is the first School Bus Driver Appreciation Day since Boardman's Transportation Department moved into the new bus garage on Raupp Avenue, adjacent to the Township Administration Building.

The Ohio legislature has designated the first Monday in May as School Bus Driver Appreciation Day. More than 15,000 Ohio school bus drivers are celebrated.
