It was a special day on June 8 when Nathaniel Lisovitch, 5, of Poland took a trip with his grandmother Mary Lisovitch of New Middletown. The two were headed out to get a pet fish, but ran into an interesting dilemma that drew them both in.

"I first had to stop and get gas at the New Middletown Tic-Toc," Mary said. "We both heard meowing as we pulled up to the gas pumps to get gas."

She said when Nathaniel heard the kitten's cries, he wasn't sure where they were coming from. Mary and Nathaniel both got out of the car and discovered the kitten had become trapped in the wheel well of the car.

"Right away the fish he was on his way to get was no longer a priority but now it was to save this kitten," Mary said.

Several people offered to help Nathaniel, but were unsuccessful in removing the kitten. Nathaniel stayed at the car, as he kept a watchful eye on the kitten to make sure it was not in danger. Then the 5-year-old hero knew what had to be done.

"He said call a policeman, he will help," Mary said.

While they were waiting for the policeman to arrive, a young woman came forward and asked if she could assist. She was able to get under the tight squeeze of the car and freed the kitten. The kitten wasn't hurt.

Officer Ray Fellows then arrived on the scene and took the kitten to a home where it would be safe. Mary and Nathaniel never learned the name of the "angel" who stopped to help the little kitten, but both are very grateful she showed up.

After the kitten was on its way to a safe place, Mary and Nathaniel went on to the pet store to get the fish.

"Nathaniel was an angel who made this day extra special," Mary said. "All thanks to the big heart of this 5-year-old."
