Austintown Choir’s annual craft show accepting vendors

August 14, 2019

The third Annual Austintown Choir Craft show is accepting vendors for this year's event, set for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 7 in the Fitch High School cafeteria. All proceeds from the event will go towards the choir's next trip to Chicago and performances at Jessie Brown and the Heinz veteran's hospitals.

"The choir started this annual trip back in 1972," said Choir director Bill Klein. "This next trip will be our 48th."

The choir always gives performances at veterans hospitals and the kids get to spend time talking with them. In their last trip to Chicago they gave a performance and then visited hospital rooms of the veterans who were unable to attend the concert. The bottom line for the event is to make the veterans know they have friends and people who care about them.

"We do a big auditorium show, then visit individual rooms of those who could not attend," Klein said.

While it is a worthy cause, it does not come without a price. Last year the choir had to raise $975 per student to make the trip to Virginia. The Chicago trip is only around $800 per student, which means to send the 42 member choir will cost around $33,600.

"We have fundraisers throughout the year and the craft show is one of our big ones," he said.

The problem in the past shows was the fact they were being held in December. He said it was well-attended by the public, but not a lot of people were buying. Klein believes they already bought their holiday decorations at the earlier shows.

"It was just too late last year," he said. "By holding it earlier, we will be helping the vendors and the show."

Klein is hoping for at least 30 vendors, which is where the show is at right now. There is room for more and the hope is to make it even larger for this one. The choir will also be raising funds through a basket raffle.

Vendors interested in the show may contact Bill Klein, Fitch Vocal Music Director, at 330-797-3900 ext.1025. All money raised will go towards the concert choir's Chicago tour to veterans hospitals.
