Spartan runners open season on a good note

The Lady Spartans ran their first Suburban League meet of the year at Woodland Park on Aug. 27 in McDonald. The Spartans took a first place finish with Raegan Burkey, Alayna Cuevas and Lauren Bero leading the way placing first, second and third respectively overall. Burkey finished the tough course with a winning time of 21:43, Cuevas was second with a 22:06 and Lauren Bero was third with a time of 22:55. Isabelle Dwyer placed fifth overall with a 23:28, Arianna Moffo was next placing sixth overall with a time of 23:34. Bailey Moore and Jorden Solmen finished off the scoring for the Lady Spartans placing ninth and 11th overall, Moore's time was 24:04 and Solmen 24:32.

The Spartans placed sixth overall at the Salem Early Bird XC Invitational at Waterworth Memorial Park on Aug. 24. The Lady Spartans were led by Freshman Lauren Bero who placed 12th overall (21:15), Junior, Alayna Cuevas was next in for the Spartans placing 20th overall (21:38), Junior Bailey Moore placed 27th overall (22:14). Junior, Isabelle Dwyer placed 30th overall (22:19), Senior Hannah Davitt placed 38th (22:53). Freshman, Arianna Moffo (23:41) and Junior Ally Schwendeman (23:59) finished off the scoring for the Lady Spartans. Coach Stacey Hunter said she was excited to get the season started and even more excited to see two freshmen in the top six. Next in for the Spartans were Jordan Solmen (24:22), Alexis Kaleda (26:16), Kathleen Sullivan (26:32), Olivia Pickens (27:50), Ali White (28:16), Genevieve Quinlan (28:25), Emily Olexa (29:24), Sydney Freeman (31:23), Lilly Snyder (33:25), Katelyn Manning (33:29) and Jessica Winson (35:49)
