Austintown Lions Club transfers used eyeglasses

October 9, 2019
The Town Crier
Recently, the Austintown Lions Club transferred some 4,000 pairs of used eyeglasses to the Uniontown, Ohio Lions Club. The Uniontown Club, in turn, catalogues and processes the glasses which are then sent to South American and some Asian countries enabling adults and children who are sight impaired to regain their sight. The Austintown Club accumulated the glasses from community donations and wants to thank the Austintown Community for their support of this program. In 1925, Helen Keller challenged the Lions to become Knights of the Blind. The Lions accepted that challenge and title and today are proud of the work they do to help those with sight impairments.
Pictured is Austintown Lions Club Treasurer, Larry Jensen, turning in some 4,000 pairs of used eyeglasses to be processed and sent to foreign countries.
