36th annual Fitch Veteran's Day Assembly to feature first woman speaker

Austintown Fitch will hold the 35th Annual Veterans Day Assembly on Monday, Nov. 11 at 9 a.m. in the Fitch High School Auditorium. Sargeant First Class Kimberly McGinness will be the first woman speaker at the annual veterans day assembly. She is United States Army (Active Duty, Iraq). She has received a Purple Heart, Iraq Campaign Medal 3 stars and an Army Commendation Medal 4H oak leaf cluster.

McGinness was born in Asheville, North Carolina in November of 1984. She enlisted into the United States Army in November of 2003. She completed One Station Unit Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri as a Military Police Officer. She first served as a patrol officer in the 615th Military Police Company and deployed to Iraq as a gunner with that company. Following this assignment, she served as a Team Leader with the 110th Military Police Company at Fort Carson, Colorado and re-deployed to Iraq where she served as a Squad Leader for the 3rd Platoon. She then served as a Drill Sergeant and Senior Drill Sergeant in E Company, 701st Military Police Companyat Fort Leonard Wood, MO.

SFC McGinness then served as the S3/Operations NCO with 2nd Brigade, Special Troops Battalion at Fort Hood, TX.

She joined the U.S. Army Recruiting Command in 2015 and is assigned to the Cleveland Recruiting Battalion, Warren Recruiting Company, Boardman Recruiting Station. She currently performs

duties as the Station Commander

McGinness' Military education includes: Warrior Leaders Course, Senior Leaders Course, Army Recruiting Course, Station Commanders Course, Advance Leaders Course, Master Resiliency Trainer Course, Army Basic Instructor Course, Drill Sergeant Course, Anti-Terrorism Basic Course and Physical Protective Detail Course.

Her Military Awards include: Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, (4th oak leaf cluster), the Army Achievement Medal, (4th oak leaf cluster), the Army Good conduct medal (5th Award), National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal (3 stars), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Combat Action Badge, Drill Sergeant Badge, and Recruiter Badge.

McGinness is engaged and has two children, son Eli (5) and daughter
