Scout Troop 9025 awards Eagles, now totaling 183

Three members of Scouts BSA Troop 9025, Boy Scouts of America chartered to Canfield United Methodist Church in Canfield, will be awarded an Eagle On Nov. 13 after having fulfilled the requirements. Scouts Jacob Kuszaj, Prabhnoor Dhaliwal and Steven Deak will be the troops 181st, 182nd and 183rd Eagle Scout.

Taking honors as number 181 is Jacob David Kuszaj, 18, son of David and Joann Kuszaj of Canfield. Jacob got his start in scouting as a Cub Scout with Pack 5, where he spent three years and achieved the rank of Webelo 2. In March of 2013 he joined Troop 9025 and is currently Junior Assistant Scoutmaster.

Jacob earned 21 merit badges, received the Camp Seven Ranges 5th Year Pipestone Award, Gettysburg Historic Hike Award, Bob Roberts Memorial Backpatch with nine points, Recipient of the Troop 25 2015 Herman West Most Active Scout Award, and the 2016 Jimmy Jones Outstanding Scout Award.

As for special activities, Jacob belonged to the Ordeal Member of Marnoc Lodge 151 - Order of the Arrow, and attended the Gettysburg Historic Battlefield Campout, Wright Patterson Airforce Base Campout, Mammoth Cave National Park Exploration, Put-In-Bay Campout, Seven Ranges Scout Reservation Summer Camp, 50 mile Allegheny River Canoe Trip, two Troop Ski Trips and winning the Klondike Derby in 2014.

Jacob is a senior at Canfield High School where he is a member of the Golf Team and Key Club. He attends St. Michael Parish and enjoys archery and golfing.

Jacob's Eagle Project involved working with Mill Creek MetroPark top construct six bat houses and installing them in the McGuffy Wildlife Preserve, the Newport Wetlands and Vickers Nature Preserve. The Eagle challenge was given by Troop Assistant Scoutmaster and Eagle Scout Donald Duda.

Coming in at Eagle Scout 182 is Prabhmoor Singh Dhaliwal, 16, son of Gurjeet and Supreet Dhaliwal of Canfield. Prabhmoor spent two years in Cub Scouts achieving Webelo 2 and joined Troop 9025 in November of 2013. He presently serves as Junior Assistant Scoutmaster.

Prabhmoor earned 24 merit badges and the Camp Seven Ranges 5th Year Pipestone Award, Duty to God Religious Award, and the Bob Roberts Memorial Backpatch with five points. He is also an Ordeal Member of Marnoc Lodge 151-Order of the Arrow, and took part in Wright Patterson Airforce Base Campout, Mammoth Cave Exploration, Put-In-Bay Campout , and Seven Ranges Scout Reservation Summer Camp.

Prabhmoor is a senior at Canfield High School where he is involved as a Congressional Debater for the Canfield Speech and Debate Team, is captain of the Varsity Quiz Bowl Team, is Bass Section Leader for Canfield Choir, is on the executive board of the junior and senior class, is president of Model UN Team, and secretary of Y-teens Service Club. In his academic career he has earned the National Merit Commended Scholar, AP Scholar with Honor, National Quarterfinalist-Congressional Debate, State SemifinalistCongressional Debate, and was District Champion-Congressional Debate. He plans to attend a four-year college to study business/social impact after graduation.

Prabhmoor is a member of the Pittsburgh Sikh Gurdwara Temple and is a member of SYANA (Sikh Youth Alliance of North America). Participated in Gurmat Camps, Gurmat Retreats, and Youth Symposiums (speech competitions) where he has received International recognition multiple times in the Symposiums and has placed third internationally. He is also founder and executive director of Aspiration Prep [a 501(c)(3) educational nonprofit](front page feature in the Youngstown Business Journal), is a development intern at Youngstown Business Incubator, intern at Office of Canadian Parliamentarian, volunteers at Angels for Animals, volunteers at Akron Children's Hospital, and is a practitioner of Competitive Shotokan Karate in the ISKF (International Shotokan Karate Federation).

For his Eagle project, Prabhmoor raised $2,000 in individual and corporate funds to install three one piece flag poles on Angels for Animals shelter grounds and worked with the shelter director to design a custom flag called the Angels flag. The Eagle challenge was given by John KightlingerEagle Scout and Troop Committee Chairman.

Earning the spot as Eagle Scout number 183 is Steven Charles Deak, 18, son of Steven Deak and Janet Pateras of Austintown. Steven joined Troop in 2013 and currently serves as Senior Patrol Leader.

Steven earned a whopping 26 merit badges; only 21 are needed to fulfill the Eagle requirements. He earned the Camp Seven Ranges 5th Year Pipestone Award, Gettysburg Historic Hike Award, Duty to God Religious Award, Bob Roberts Memorial Backpatch with seven points, and is recipient of the Troop 25 2018 Jimmy Jones Outstanding Scout Award. He is a member of the Ordeal Member of Marnoc Lodge 151-Order of the Arrow, and took part in the Gettysburg Historic Battlefield Campout, and Seven Ranges Scout Reservation Summer Camp.

Steven is a senior at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center where he is in aviation mechanics. When he graduates, he plans on pursuing a career in the Airline Industry as an aviation mechanic.

Steven attends Zion Lutheran Church in Cornersburg and in his spare time, enjoys model railroading and radio controlled planes, cars and boats. He is also a volunteer at the War Veterans Museum.

For his Eagle Challenge, given by Troop Assistant Leader and Eagle Scout Donald Duda, Steven worked with the ranger at the Mill Creek Recreation Area of Berlin Lake and constructed bird boxes and installed them along with mulching the trail for the Bay Woods Nature Trail in the Mill Creek Bend at Berlin Lake.

Jacob, Prabhmoor and Steven's Eagle Scout Award will be presented at a special Eagle Scout Court of Honor on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019 in the Sanctuary of Canfield United Methodist Church, 27 S. Broad St., Canfield.
