Preschool students collect 227 pairs of socks for people in need

November 20, 2019
The Town Crier

Austintown Community Church Preschool Childcare Center, celebrating their 50th year of being in the community, is in full swing for the 2019-2020 school year. The preschool children have been busy getting to know each other, learning school rules and routines, learning their letters and numbers, and most importantly learning about Jesus.

Every month the preschool children, teachers, and staff get together for "Spirit Days." During this time, the students celebrate the spirit of the school, the spirit of each other, and the spirit of Jesus. Students also complete a service project during this time to celebrate someone or something in the community. This teaches the children compassion, empathy and to be helpful to others.

During the month of November, for "Spirit Days," the students held a sock hop. The children danced the morning away, in their socks, to songs such as, the Twist, Y.M.C.A., and the Chicken Dance, as well as to some Vacation Bible School songs. During this time, for their service project, the children and their families donated a pair or package of socks for men, women and children who are in need. The project ended up collecting 227 pairs of socks. The socks were then donated to the Austintown Community Church need room and to the Rescue Mission in downtown Youngstown.
