December 4, 2019
The Town Crier

The Austintown Band Parents Club, Inc. announced its 5th Annual Jazz & Dessert Festival to be held on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Austintown Middle School on Raccoon Road. The Festival was created to showcase the members of the Austintown Middle School and Fitch High School Jazz Bands along with the Austintown Fitch Alumni Jazz Band. During the evening of music, local dessert makers, amateur and professional, serve various desserts for awards selected by professional Judges and all audience members. The event is a fundraiser for the Austintown Band Programs.

Admission is $6 per person and includes tickets for 10 dessert samples and a small take home container. Beverages are also sold at the event. In past years there have been approximately 40 different desserts to choose from, ranging from cupcakes to chocolate covered strawberries, fruit pies, typical "Youngstown Wedding" cookies, hot chocolate with homemade marshmallows, bread puddings, cake pops, baklava, cream puffs and more. Awards are also given for best displays that the dessert makers create for their selections. It is an amazing atmosphere of great music and some of the Mahoning Valley's best sweet treats. The AMS Jazz band is directed by Mr. Jeremy McClain, Fitch Jazz 1 and Jazz 2 are conducted by Wesley O'Connor and the Alumni Jazz Band with members ranging from the Class of 1972 to the Class of 2019 are lead by Marc Pupino.

The Band Parents are currently accepting applications for dessert makers. At the end of the evening the dessert makers also sell their treats. There is also a Chinese Auction of bakery treats available. More information and entry forms can be found at the band's website afband.org under "concerts and events" or call Brad Gessner, event chair at 330-398-0681.
