The Poland Lions Club has completed its collection of blankets that will be handed out to needy families when they pick up their Christmas food at the Poland Food Pantry this month. According to Lion Judy Young, over 70 blankets of various sizes were collected that will be distributed to Poland families serviced by the Poland Local Churches Food Pantry.

"It's a great feeling to help make a difference," Young said. "This is our seventh year with the blanket program."

She said the program started when King Lion Monica Maholtz, president at the time, brought the ideas up to the membership. From then on the Poland Lions adopted the program after a need was established.

Poland Lions members Dave Rudawsky, Karen McFadden and Bill Marland show off the blanket collection that will be handed out to those in need for Christmas.

As stated, the blankets are handed out when families in need stop at the pantry to pick up their food for the holidays. The Lions members are present to help hand out and are often met with a grateful heart.

"There have been times that the thank you from a pantry client not only was gratefulness from the recipient but as Lions we realized we were making a difference in someone's life," Young said. "We have seen people with tears of gratefulness."

She said there is need in every community for just the little things of life that most take for granted.

"Food, blankets, medical care," Young said. "Being a Lion has made us aware of many needs in

our ever changing community. We would all be surprised to see people we know that are struggling in life from time to time. Makes us as Lions thankful that we are able to help."
