Boardman boys beat Fitch 66-55

On a night where the past was honored and present was acknowledged the Spartans beat conference rival Austintown, 66-55 in front of a near capacity crowd.

The 1970 State Final Four Team was honored before and during the game as well as nine senior basketball players. This senior group finished their senior season with a school record 21 wins to go along with back to back conference crowns. Most having played varsity, have gone 40-4 over the past two regular seasons, including being unbeaten in the AAC.

Derrick Anderson led the Spartans by matching his season averages with 23 points, five rebounds and four assists. Ethan Andersen had a near double-double with 12 points and eight rebounds. Tommy Fryda was the third Spartan in double figures with 12 points, including one more 3-pointer, adding to his school record. Fryda now has 60 long balls on the season. Daeone Martin added seven points while having a strong rebounding game, pulling in five boards. Charlie Davis started off senior night in fashion, burying two threes to begin the game. Zach Ryan it a timely three to hold off a Fitch rally. Trey DePietro added two points and Connor Miller rounded out the scoring with a free throw.

The win was the Spartans' 11th in a row, finishing the regular season with a 21-1 record, 8-0 in conference. Boardman begins tournament play next Saturday at home vs the winner of Alliance/Wooster.
