Austintown Intermediate hosts art show

March 11, 2020
The Town Crier

On Wednesday, Feb. 26, Austintown Intermediate art teachers Jennifer Houston and Sarah Ress hosted the second annual AIS Art Show. The Artome company framed 930 works of art from grades three, four, and five. Teacher volunteers helped set up and take down the show. At the show, parents could purchase their child's framed art. All proceeds will go to purchase art supplies for the AIS art classes.

Art teacher Jennifer Houston also coordinated a dress design contest. Students from each grade level entered dress designs. The winning design, by Aleea Louis in third grade, was made into a dress that both Houston and Aleea Louis wore to the event.

Each art class had a different theme and project. The types of artwork included were watercolor seascapes, mixed media owls, oil pastel landscapes, still life paper collages, landscape collages, tempera paint leaves, and charcoal landscapes. There were also watercolor paintings of sea turtles, seahorses, rainbow lorikeets, bluebirds, toucans, geodes, parrots, vegetables, pumpkins and more.

Ella Lemke (grade four) shows how her art went to the birds as she showcases her third place ribbon she won at the AIS Art show.

Ribbons were awarded for first, second, third, honorable mention, and participant places. Principals, Angel Owens and Tim Pappagallo, chose one student from each grade level to win the Principal's Choice Award.
