Brock Farris, an eighth grade student at Glenwood Junior High, will compete in the 2020 Ohio State Geography Bee on Friday, March 27 at the Ohio History Center in Columbus. This is his second trip to the State Bee; Brock qualified to compete last year as a seventh grader.

The National Geographic Bee, an academic contest for students in grades four through eight, is the ultimate goal. The range of material includes social studies, earth and space science, the environment and culture. Of course, geography is at its core.

Students must take a qualifying test to compete at the State level. Brock is among the top 100 students in Ohio who qualified to compete.

Brock Farris, an eighth grader at BGJHS, will compete in State Geography Bee in Columbus later this month.

"Brock is exceptional about knowing and remembering maps, places, and spatial relations," said social studies teacher Vincent Carnevale, Brock's coach and advisor. "Brock is here at school at least an hour early, several days a week to study and prepare, and I think he will challenge the best of the best."

The winner of the State Bee will advance to the National Geography Bee in Washington, DC May 18-21.
