Boardman scout brings fun to the park

Boardman Scout Troop 46 member Logan Malysa had a great idea that he turned into an Eagle Scout project. He is working to construct a metal library box that will include games and place it at Austintown Township Park off Kirk Road.

"I have decided to make my project in Austintown Park for the reason that Boardman park already has a similar idea," he said. "Also, the park supervisor in Austintown, Todd Schaeffer, was very cooperative in preparing for the project proposal."

The metal box will contain books that Logan is requesting people only read at the park, then put them back.

"If the book is too long, I will tell them to bring it home but to bring it back so others can read it," Malysa said.

The second part of his project involves games. He is hoping to have games like checkers and chess and a playing board in the cabinet as well. The game pieces will be magnetic and will stick to the sides of the cabinet.

"I plan to have my project done by the end of April, beginning of May," he said. "The cost of the project is roughly $500 and will be getting it from donations. If I am running short on money, I have created a plan to make broccoli soup and sell it to reach my goal."

The little library and game boards will be located in the playground area near the splash pad at the park.

Malysa has been in Troop 46 for five years now. He is currently working on his last two merit badges that will put him on track to earning his Eagle in a few months.
