Poland schools take steps for at home lessons

Before the announcement of school closings last week, Poland Local School District administration had already planned a waiver day on Friday so teachers and administrators could make plans to continue a quality education through an "alternate instructional medium."

Plans were made and over the weekend, teachers proactively and voluntarily prepared.

On March 13, Superintendent David Janofa put out an all-call regarding the situation.

"The staff had a very successful waiver day today as we are prepared to launch our digital/blended platform," Janofa wrote. "Therefore, the Poland Schools will begin this educational experience on Monday, March 16."

He said students will not be attending physical buildings until further notice. All student trips are canceled through May 1, as well as all after-school activities until further notice.

According to Julie Bercik, Public Relations for Poland Local Schools, students will be schooled at home via computer or chrome book. For those who don't have that access, they can sign up for a free service like Comcast and once that is done, the student could obtain a school-provided device to be able to work at home.

As for K-2 students from Poland Union, paper packets are going to be available for pick up at the school from March 23 through March 30. The packets will go by teacher.

In the meantime, Bercik recommends checking the Poland Schools Website at as updates are coming almost daily.
