Wedgewood Park

In 2004, Caroline Senedak and her neighbors, friends, and their family members surrounding Wedgewood Park formed Friends of Wedgewood Park. Their mission was to eliminate the crime and blight that had come to the green space over the years since the park was turned over to the township. In 2008, the multi-phase plan restored the park thanks to the efforts of many township volunteers and corporate partners. Unfortunately, it seems as if the township parks department and police forces have given this community success story low priority. This neglect by these departments has allowed vandalism and loitering by restless adolescents to return. If the township continues to ignore the park, how soon will it be before gangs, crime, and drug dealing return to the neighborhood? We demand that the township give this community success story more attention in order to preserve the neighborhood's character and make-up.

Once again it is time for the neighbors to come together. Please make yourself and family fixtures in the park. The "good traffic" deters the bad. I will be glad to attend a township meeting regaurding the safety issues related to Wedgewood Park at any time. Please post a date. I hate to be the loan ranger calling the parks dept...

No it not a product of our times it's just that people don't care about anything that don't benefit themselves.I remember when i was a kid that place was great and safe. Now the community has moved on to newer and bigger communities. leaving the old to parish. If the police chiefs home was next to it or a trustee lived by it things would change because it would be a eye sore to them .Remember it's all politics. the wheels that squeek's the most gets the oil. so squeek and dont stop squeking

It is a shame after so much work from all volunteers has went into restoring this park. On the township's side however, perhaps cutbacks and fewer personnel have played a part in trying to manage it. I guess the park is just a product of our times in the Mahoning Valley.
