I don't think Pres. Obama should have held the peace treaty between Dr. Gates and the police officer.

There you go with the "race" thing. You're missing my point! Cop got called out for being 'cop-like", didnt know who Dr. Gates' friends were, cop in trouble.

I'm sure that the President has more personal "friends" than most people. That's irrelevant. My point is that he (the President) had no business using the Press Conference as a spring board for a national discussion on race relations.

If Dr. Gates was not a personal friend of the president would this had ever been a news worthy issue? Or do you think it would just be an unfortunate story that Dr. Gates tells to his colleagues over beers in his backyard while the police officer laughs about it to his buddies?

Meatball - I agree with you that the cop was acting out of line. However, your missing my point. This was not an issue that the President should have been involved in. His witty and carefree comments should be left to sports scores.

PUH-LEASE! You think the president actually has anything to do with running the free world? This was not a racial issue, it is a matter of a cowboy cop that called out for barking up the wrong tree and personally, its about time!

Free beer on the White House lawn? What's next? Perhaps the President should concentrate on larger matters than what's happening in Cambridge. That was an action that should have been instituted by the mayor of Cambridge. Obama has bigger fish to fry and needs to concentrate on running the Free World! Sheesh!
